Lyricson - From The Beginning - Music Video

Sadly in recent times hardly no quality Jamaican style roots reggae comes out so I was happy to come across this one. Brand new from Lyricson. This guy has been around for almost 10 years now yet I only picked up a handful of his tunes at best, and I can't remember any of the tunes at all really. After hearing this one I wonder if I missed anything crucial during these years... Anyway, enjoy the tune, his latest single, complete with music video! From the new album to be released 8th November 2010. Hopefully this one comes out as a 7" single as well, with a couple of other next vocals on this riddim! Its alright.

Mayer Hawthorne - I Wish It Would Rain &

How can one not like this young gentleman? Ok, he might not be the greatest singer ever but this is new music and its sounding great. Clearly a man who loves and understand great music and a huge fan of the motown sound. And I just love this message in tunes as well. The video is great too.

Below is another great tune and video. Note the red heart in the video is actually the single for this tune. Yes, all this guys tunes have been released on vinyl! So far two 7" singles, a 12" single and a double LP / CD. All of top quality. Get to know!

Manny Corchado - Pow-Wow

Killer tune! If you dont know get to know... From the youtube description:
Manny Corchado, featuring Tito Jimenez, made the 1967 Decca album Aprovecha El Tiempo (Swing While You Can) to try and please both American and the Latin record markets. Pow-Wow, written by Manny himself, is recorded in the boogaloo rhythm which was the current dance craze for both young Latin and American dancers.
"Pow-Wow has a weird native American groove that's totally great - lots of "woo woo woo" vocal bits at the beginning, and percussion that sounds like it's on the warpath - but also plenty of rolling Latin Soul piano lines, brassy horns, and spoken lyrics in Spanish."

Augustus Pablo - Power Of The Trinity Dub - Rockers 12" Single

Long time since posted here but never too late to start again! To celebrate the birth of HIM Haile Selassie I today, here is one of my many favourite by Augustus Pablo - Power Of The Trinity Dub. A melodica cut to Hugh Mundell - Jah Says The Time Has Come. Haile Selassie name meaning of course Power or Might Of The Trinity. Here goes some favourite quotes from HIM to think about while listening:

"With the raising of all men to their rightful dignity and honor as individuals, they will be able to regard their fellows, of whatever nation, of whatever race, of whatever religious, linguistic or historic tradition, as equals, without jealousy, without fear, without undue pride."
"It is both the duty and responsibility of the world's fortunate few to help fulfil the legitimate aspirations of the unfortunate many"
"We must stop confusing religion and spirituality. Religion is a set of rules, regulations and rituals created by humans which were supposed to help people grow spiritually. Due to human imperfection religion has become corrupt, political, divisive and a tool for power struggle. Spirituality is not theology or ideology. It is simply a way of life, pure and original as was given by the Most High. Spirituality is a network linking us to the Most High, the universe and each other."
"Because of the progress mankind has achieved and because of the difficulties that are at times part and parcel of progress and prosperity, we find ourselves at a crossroad where we might make the world safe for our future generations or we might all perish together."

Johnny Adams - I Wish It Would Rain

Wicked piece of slow modern soul from 1972. This tune was a hit single for the temptations five years earlier and has been recorded by many great singers, but to me this one is the best I've heard. Johnny Adams, "The Tan Canary" from New Orleans is one of the greatest singers of all time, has recorded music in many genres and for many different labels but sadly never really reached the stardom as some of his contemporaries. Enjoy!

Nas & Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley - Road To Zion - As We Enter - Distant Relatives

Wicked hip hop tune from Jr Gong & Nas. Even if you dont check for rap music (I don't) you might have heard the hype over their future album project - Distant Relatives (to be released 18 May 2010). This is the tune that started out their collaboration, released back in 2005.

Many hard core reggae fans object to reggae artists going into other styles of music, but of course this can also be a force for good in this world. Rap artists I'm sure can be very skilled with words, but so often these days the music is saying nothing. Reggae rappers (known as DJ's) have been putting out a conscious message since the 1960s. This project also aims to trace the roots of rap music, through Jamaica, and all the way back to Africa. And also to show the link between reggae music, hip hop music and beyond. This is promised to be done both musically and lyrically. The CD will also include a DVD to furture illustrate this point featuring reasonings from hip hop legends like MC Rakim, DJ Hool Herc and journalist Jeff Chang, and foundation reggae artists like U Roy, Big Youth and soundman / producer King Jammy.

Killer video and a killer tune.

This video was in a competition on a UK Tv show called The Tube, this is the best video, the man in the video is building sound system speakers. Music produced by Adrian Sherwood

Jackie Wilson - Lonely Teardrops & I'm So Lonely

Two great videos of the late great Jackie Wilson - Mr Excitement himself. Jackie was hugely influential in developing r&b to soul music and as can be seen in these videos a huge inspiration to everyone from the great Elvis Presley to Michael Jackson. Serious!
